The Challenge
Facebook reached out globally to their agency partners to submit ideas on how to use Virtual Reality (VR) and Facebook technologies to help children and their families through their cancer journey while partnering with St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
We conducted interviews and researched the topic to learn what could be most helpful during this process. We found that many parents with a child going through cancer treatment overwhelmingly feel that the relationship between them is strained and moving in a negative direction. With one parent many times staying at a hospital with the child receiving treatment, and the other at home with the other kids, there is often a physical distance between the parents for many months.
Our Solution
We created Virtually Inseparable, a VR experience and program that allowed two parents to connect, immerse, engage, and reinforce their relationships in order to keep the family strong during a very trying time. Using the VR headsets and controllers, parents touch hands to begin each experience, then stroll through virtual worlds together, create fun sculptures, or just sit and watch a show together. And with Facebook, they can connect with support groups and family through positive interactive photos, videos, and messages.
